Top Easter food and drink events in London

Easter is upon us, which, for egghausted Londoners, means the delicious prospect of four days off.

With the daffs in bloom and the mercury rising, Easter brings with it a sense of hope, both for new life and warmer weather.

If you decide to stay in town over the break, you might like to get involved in some of these cracking events taking place in the capital, from chocolate cocktails to egg and spoon races.

Scotch egg at Kensington Place 

While many of us will spend the Easter weekend up to our eyes in brightly coloured foil wrappers devouring chocolate eggs like our life depended on it, those with less of a sweet tooth might prefer to celebrate with a savoury snack, and what better way than with a Scotch egg?

Kensington Place has created a twist on a Scotch egg, which will be served throughout the Easter break featuring smoked bacon and apple. For further inspiration, check out our round-up of London’s top five Scotch eggs.

Easter cocktails at Duck & Waffle 

Mixologist Rich Woods’ has created a trio of Easter-themed cocktails on pour at Duck & Waffle in the Heron Tower for one week only from Friday 25 March. Aimed at chocoholics keen for a liquid cocoa fix, the Nutella Negroni twists on the Italian classic via Bombay Sapphire gin, Campari, vermouth and a Nutella infusion.

Also in line-up are shots of coffee-washed Bacardi superior, hay-infused white chocolate and black truffle served in hollowed out duck eggs; and the Beetroot & Chocolate Royalé, a sweet-savoury twist on a Kir Royale featuring beet and cacao liqueur topped with Champagne. All three cost £14.

Mini Egg pancakes at Avenue 

Indulge your inner infant at the American-themed Avenue in St James’s this Easter, which will be serving Cadbury’s Mini Egg pancakes with vanilla ice cream and Cadbury’s Crème Egg sundaes.

For those keen to spoil themselves, a decadent bottomless brunch will be available on Friday 24 March from 11am to 4pm.

The Easter Bunny’s Gift at Wringer + Mangle

Now this week like the look of. Glassware is so passé – the latest fad is for edible cocktails. Kooky cocktail bar Wringer + Mangle in London Fields will be taking us down the rabbit hole with The Easter Bunny’s gift; a cocktail housed in a chocolate egg.

Playing on sweet and savoury flavours, the indulgent cocktail, created by Gerry Calabrese, features carrot juice, spiced rum, Grand Marnier, cream, cinnamon syrup and orange zest, and is served with both a straw and a spoon. Priced at £10, it will be available throughout the Easter weekend.

Bottomless Brunch at 34 Mayfair

The über swish 34 Mayfair launches its brunch menu this weekend, and will be offering bottomless Champagne from Friday to Monday – all you need to do is order a glass at the start of your meal for free flowing fizz. Don’t miss the limited edition creme egg pud made coconut and mango mousse.

Egg and spoon race at Le Pont de La Tour 

Relive happy (or traumatic) memories of sports day at riverside restaurant Le Pont de La Tour this Easter, which will be hosting an egg and spoon race along Butler’s Wharf. Also taking part in the race are Cantina del Ponte, Butler’s Wharf Chop House and the Blueprint Café.

The races begin at Cantina del Ponte with a 2pm start time for children and 2.15pm time for adults. Prizes galore await for the winners. Both Le Pont de la Tour and Cantina del Ponte have created Easter-themed menus running throughout the weekend including roast spring lamb and Easter cake.

Giant easter bunny hunt 

Catch them if you can, or wind up hopping mad. The Ivy Café’s in Kensington, Covent Garden and Marylebone will be hosting a giant Easter bunny hunt over from 22-28 March, with all three restaurants boasting bespoke Easter displays, including 10ft topiary bunnies balancing Easter eggs on their noses and doorways adorned with pink blossom Easter trees – a surefire Instagram hit.

Christathlon

Following on from the success of Santacon over Christmas, those with a fetish for dressing up should get involved in the Christathlon, where revellers make like JC in their best tunics, wigs and sandals (felt-tip beards optional) and head to biblically-named pubs to raise money for charity.

The first pub on the route is The Trinity in Borough. Flaggers keen to catch up with the crowd of Christs can call the Christathon hotline to find out where the pilgrimage has moved on to.

Balthazar Boulangerie 

Chocoholics dining at Balthazar in Covent Garden should nip into the Boulangerie next door, which will be selling all manner of Easter treats, including Simnel cakes laced with fruit and layered with marzipan, chocolate owls, Florentines and chocolate eggs stuffed with truffles and caramels.
