Taittinger head takes over Champagne Unesco project
The head of Champagne Taittinger, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, has taken over the presidency of the region’s Unesco project.
Taittinger takes over from Pierre Cheval, who sadly passed away very suddenly in January, having seen his campaign to gain UNESCO World Heritage recognition for Champagne come to fruition in July 2015.
As reported by Vitisphere, already vice-president of the ‘Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne’ organisation for three years, Taittinger was named president on 2 March.
Taittinger paid homage to Cheval saying, “he leaves us an immense legacy, gained through a hard struggle and the unity of the Champagne community.”
He continued that it was his intention to ensure the UNESCO recognition bore fruit for the region and he was glad he could count on the full support of the producers “in all their diversity”.
