Second Ornellaia tranche to be auctioned in London
The second tranche of wines from Super Tuscan Ornellaia’s ‘Archivio Storico’ ex-cellar releases are to be auctioned in London this month.
The 120 lots will be sold by Sotheby’s on 16 March as part of a wider fine wine sale that is expected to realise £700,00.
The first tranche of wines was offered in New York at the end of last month and the London line-up includes the last wines from the 1994-1999 vintages that Ornellaia will ever offer.
Serena Sutcliffe MW, honorary chairman of Sotheby’s Wine commented: “Ornellaia is a wine of our time, a contemporary legend that has been a privilege to follow as it was created, developed and as it soared to success. As we tasted all the vintages in this auction, we were amazed at the longevity of Ornellaia, a quality that is always apparent in the long, lingering finish of the wines. Ornellaia is a wine of joy and gravitas, pleasure and reflection.”
The last sale in the series will be held in Hong Kong on 2-3 April.
