Rest of the world gives way to Bordeaux
The ‘Rest of the World 50’ sub-index on the Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 declined in February as Bordeaux continued to make (small) gains.
Overall the index rose 0.6% in February, not as strong as the 1.2% registered by the Fine Wine 100 last month and also down on the strong January performances of the two indices.
Having been the worst performing sub-index in January, the Champagne 50 bounced back in February with a 1.9% month-on-month increase, closely followed by the Italy 100, which rose 1.2%.
The Rhône 100, a sub-index which has struggled of late, rose 0.22%, a very small but nonetheless consecutive monthly increase.
The Rest of the World 50 remains the best-performing sub-index over five years but in February it dipped 0.9% and it is now the only sub-index in negative territory on the year-to-date – down 1.6%.
Bordeaux’s performance in February meanwhile was not as strong as in January but both the Bordeaux 500 and the Bordeaux Legends 50 rose 0.6%, putting the Bordeaux 500 up 2.4% over the last year – the best-performing sub-index on the platform.
