NVV partners with Christie’s for HK sale

Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) has partnered with Christie’s auction house in order to bring some rare and collectable wines to Hong Kong this November.

Twenty-five lots of specially produced Napa Valley wines from the NVV’s ‘Premiere Napa Valley’ label portfolio will be sold in Hong Kong towards the end of the year.

Considered some of the rarest wines in the world, the Premiere Napa Valley wines are specially made for the NVV by some of the region’s most famous and well-respected wineries in batches of 60 to (at most) 240 bottles. – in a manner not dissimilar to the Hospices de Beaune sale.

They are generally sold at the NVV’s annual auction each February and this is the first time any of the wines have been put on sale outside of the US (although non-US buyers can of course bid for the wines at the February sale too).

“For two decades, our vintner members have crafted and we have offered our wine region’s most coveted selections at our annual event in Napa Valley,” said Linda Reiff, NVV president and CEO.

“Premiere Napa Valley Hong Kong is a way for us to build awareness of the quality and desirability of Napa Valley wines in the world’s top wine auction market, which is also the gateway to much of Asia. This new venture will help further Napa Valley’s reputation as a leading global wine region.”

David Elswood, Christie’s international head of wine, added: “We’re delighted to present these ultimate collector wines to our audience of discerning buyers.

“Our bidders are quite familiar with the best wines of the Old World. The Premiere Napa Valley brand is an ideal way for us to present to them some of the finest wines of the New World.”

Full details of the wines that will be offered have not yet been revealed and the NVV is also planning a series of events in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai before the sale to preview the wines and concept to collectors.
