London to host 27th Wines from Spain fair

The 27th annual Wines from Spain trade fair will take place in April, with organisers announcing a raft of masterclasses and tastings set to take place at the event this week.

The Wines from Spain tasting will take place on 14 April at Tobacco Dock in London

A total of 46 importers, as well 21 exporters seeking UK distribution, will present their Spanish wine portfolios at Tobacco Dock in East London on 14 April.

More than 1300 from 69 DOs will be on pour with the latest vintages from classic and emerging regions available to taste. A host of features that celebrate the best of Spanish culture and gastronomy will also be on offer from expert-led masterclasses to focused tasting flights.

Two self-pour feature tastings will be open to visitors from 10.30 to 6pm; Indie & On-Trade ‘Star Buys’, which will see exhibitors pick their star wine from the show for the independent and on-trade sector; and the New Spanish Benchmarks, which will highlight the array of varieties and styles which “best represent the new ‘face’ of Spain”.

A series of masterclasses will also be held on the day with places allocated on a first come, first served basis.

One highlight will be a presentation by winemaker Beltrán Domecq, president of the CRDO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry y Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and author of Sherry Uncovered, on the topic of “Fine, Rare and Aged Sherry”.

A second masterclass will explore the evolution of winemaking in Navarra hosted by a group of producers from the region. Wines from 11 different bodegas will be showcased, with the line-up including wines made with indigenous as well as international varieties.

Meanwhile Spanish restaurant Ibérica will be on hand to offer a lunch menu created especially by Michelin star chef Nacho Manzano for the fair. Signature dishes will be served from Ibérica’s kitchen between 12pm to 2pm alongside a selection of Spanish white, rosé and red wines.
