Les Grands Jours in pics

Fun as Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne is, anyone who’s been will know it requires sharp elbows. Below are some of the tastings db attended during the week which started in Chablis and finished in the Côte Chalonnaise.

The sun was shining brightly on Vosne-Romanée on Tuesday for the tasting at Clos de Vougeot. As always there was a special vertical of wines from the clos from various producers and vintages laid on for the press.

On Tuesday night db was invited to La Paulée de Marsannay and was fortunate to be seated with the very talented Laurent Fournier.

Some excellent Crémant de Bourgogne was doing the rounds. All of the above needing UK representation – if anyone’s looking…

A photo opportunity in Montrachet on the way to the tasting in Mercurey.

The tastings in general highlighted the quality of some of the ‘lesser-known’ or certainly less pricey Burgundy appellations. The bottles above were just some of the very impressive wines from Mercurey, Rully, Givry and Bouzeron on display but there were many equally strong wines from the Mâconnais and the Hauts Côtes of Beaune and Nuits as well.

Just as we were about to leave the brand new map of the Côte Chalonnaise by Sylvain Pitiot arrived. So of course we had to take a snap of it.
