IMW and BBR collaborate on HK MW masterclass
To promote the MW programme across Asia, the Institute of Masters of Wine and Berry Bros & Rudd have teamed up to host an introductory masterclass for budding students.
Taking place on 18-20 April, the masterclass consists of two and a half days of teaching sessions from two Masters of Wine, Martin Hudson MW – one of only 16, out of 343, to simultaneously pass both the theory and practical – and Anne McHale MW, who graduated winning the Madame Bollinger Prize for the best tasting paper.
Berry Bros & Rudd in Hong Kong is continuing its collaboration as official principal supporter of the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) and is seeking to promote the Master of Wine course in Asia and encourage new students to join the programme.
Hudson and McHale will introduce the Institute’s study programme and examination syllabus through demonstrating the MW approach to wine tasting and theory topics to participants.
The masterclass will include several tastings of a variety of wines from different regions of the world that will be conducted in a similar format to the Master of Wine exams.
Evening dinners are included as part of the itinerary, which will provide further tasting opportunities, led by experts in the field of wine, including Hong Kong’s own Debra Meiburg MW.
The Hong Kong programme will conclude with an entry exam for those interested in commencing their studies in the 2016/17 academic year.
BBR’s Chairman, Simon Berry, said “The cornerstones of the Berry Bros. & Rudd philosophy are integrity and authority, qualities also exemplified by The Institute of Masters of Wine.
“Our objectives have long been parallel, often overlapping and as the principal supporters, we are delighted to be able to pursue our goals together.”
The masterclass occurs shortly after the IMW announced its five newest MWs and is priced at HK$2,500, which includes wines, lunches and two wine dinners. The location will be at Meiburg’s offices in Aberdeen.
