HK’s Young Master ales make a splash in Seoul
In its South Korea debut, Hong Kong’s craft brewery, Young Master will take over the taps at the Mikkeller Bar next month.
Following on from its UK ‘tap takeover’ last year, Young Master will be doing the same at the Mikkeller Bar in Seoul starting on 2 April until stocks last.
Eight of its brews will be on offer, including the latest release of Tai Sui, a rye ale fermented in whiskey barrels using a sourdough starter from Hong Kong baker and chef, Gregoire Michaud.
Young Master Brewery was launched two years ago in Ap Lei Chau by Rohit Dugar, a former Goldman Sachs employee. He brews a wide range of beers, from a 5% amber pale ale to an 11.5% barrel-aged brew using grain imported from Germany and hops from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
Wildly popular in Hong Kong, Young Master ales are available in the Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons and Shangri-La as well as craft beer bars, The Globe, The Ale Project, Roundhouse, Brewdog Bar.
Recently, Hong Kong has seen a sharp increase in craft beer bar openings in the last couple of years, with Scotland’s infamous microbrewery, Brewdog recently opening its first bar on Hollywood Road.
The Mikkeller Bar Seoul sells beer from the Mikkeller craft brewery in Copenhagen and has regular guest ales.
