Cocktail bar planned on Mexican cliff face

A Mexican architect firm has dreamt up a hair-raising concept for a cocktail bar, positioning it nearly 1,000 feet above the ground as it protrudes from a cliff face.

The Copper Canyon Cocktail Bar, designed by Mexico City firm Tall Arquitectos, is perched high on a cliff overlooking Basaseachic Falls, the second highest waterfall in Mexico at 807 feet. Set across two floors, the ambitious project boasts a restaurant and bar area, observation deck with a swimming pool and a glass floor in the middle of the ground floor, affording guests a death-defying view of the canyon below.

Admittedly, the project may never become a reality, but the concept is not as far fetched as you might think, given the elaborate sky-high bars and restaurants that already exist throughout the world.

At.mosphere in Dubai is the the world’s highest bar, located within the world’s tallest building – the Burj Khalifa – which reaches 2,722 feet to the sky. Positioned on the 122nd floor, it offers spectacular views of the Arabian Gulf. Tokyo meanwhile is home to second tallest freestanding structure in the world, reaching a height of 2,080 feet. Home to the Sky Restaurant 634, on a fine day you can apparently see Mount Fuji.

The first floor of the bar has a glass floor offering guests a vertigo-inducing view of the canyon below.

Its proposed location would see the bar overlooking the Basaseachic Falls, the second highest waterfall in Mexico at 807 feet.

Adventurous guests would be able to rock climb to the bar, looking into the bar through its glass bottom.
