Chinese wine investor buys seventh estate
Hong Kong businessman Peter Kwok has bought his seventh château in Bordeaux – this time in partnership with French and Belgian investors.
Kwok (pictured), along with Frenchman Jean-Christophe Meyrou and Belgian Philippe Lambrecht, has added the 12-hectare estate Château le Rey in the Côtes de Castillon to his ‘Vignobles K’ portfolio.
It is his seventh acquisition in the region, all of them on the Right Bank. Taiwan-born Kwok bought his first Bordeaux estate in 1997 and his third in 2012 when it was reported he wanted to ensure his children could inherit a property each.
Kwok, one of the first of a growing number of Chinese investors in Bordeaux, was recently joined in the châteaux-owners club by the second richest man in China, Jack Ma, owner of online retailer Alibaba.
