Hiroshi Motohashi had just settled the bill for his US$200 meal at at the Iroha Sushi of Tokyo in Los Angeles’ Studio City neighbourhood when he produced a small snake and started showing it off to other diners, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
Noticing the presence of the animal, staff asked Motohashi to leave. Apparently incensed by this request, Hiroshi Motohashi, reportedly a pet shop owner with an enthusiasm for exotic animals, stormed out of the restaurant but returned moments later with the 13 foot yellow python in tow.
Abandoning the animal on the restaurant floor, Motohashi reportedly shouted expletives at the staff, causing panic among staff and diners.
Horrified staff called in the fire brigade and Los Angeles animal services to retrieve the snake, which had become trapped near a cash register.
Mr Motohashi was later arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats for “using the snake as a weapon and threatening the patrons”.
