Macallan reigns at Sotheby’s

Several verticals of The Macallan attracted strong bids at Sotheby’s opening Hong Kong sale of 2016.

Overall the sale made HK$16.8 million, with the Macallan verticals making HK$1.3m. The top Macallan lot was the 1945-1950 vertical which made HK$318,500.

There was likewise strong bidding for fine wines such as 1982 Lafite, 1989 Haut-Brion and 2009 and 2007 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s ‘Romanée-Conti’.

Adam Bilbey, head of Sotheby’s Wine Asia, commented: “We are very encouraged by the opening sale of the year in Hong Kong with a packed saleroom seeing keen interest across Asia. There was strong demand for the classic regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy across all price points.

100% of the whiskies were sold, highlighted by the Macallan verticals which achieved an aggregate total of HK$1,372,000, well over the high estimate (HK$1,185,000).  We now look forward to our next wine sale in London on 24 February and of course our upcoming Hong Kong wine sale on 2 April during the spring sale series at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.”
