Tesco launches non-alcoholic sparkler to rival Prosecco
Tesco has rolled out two new non-alcoholic sparkling Prosecco-alikes under its *Finest range it says that won’t create “embarrassment” if brought to a party.
The two sparklers – an Alcohol Free Pinotage Blush and Alcohol Free Chenin Blanc Sparkling from South Africa – went on shelf nationwide this week (RRP: £2.75 per 75cl), but are being merchandised in the soft drinks aisle.
Tesco said the two drinks have been fermented until “just before the point that they turn alcoholic”.
Drinks buyer Tauseef Parkar said there were plenty of non-alcoholic wines on the markets, but said these were the closest approximation of the real thing in terms of taste. “We believe that these new drinks, which have been developed for us, will offer those drinkers wishing to avoid alcohol the closest taste to a real glass of wine,” he said.
“Both drinks are deliciously light and refreshing, bursting with summer flavours and have been created as a non-alcoholic match for Prosecco and Prosecco Blush.”
“They are also designed to look like elegant bottles of sparkling wine, rather than fruity flavoured soft drinks – something that would create a ‘wow’ factor rather than embarrassment if brought along to a party,” he added.
Just tried this Tesco Finest Chenin Blanc Alcohol free ‘wine’. Probably the worst wine-related drink I have ever tasted-quite revoltingly sweet, with a slightly diesel-flavoured aftertaste. I cannot believe so much effort was expended on such a travesty of a drink which does nothing to further the laudable effort to produce quality low-alcohol wine. Either drink the real thing-or stick to sparkling water.
I thoroughly disagree with the comment above and very much enjoyed and welcomed the introduction of the Tesco’s non alcoholic Chenin Blanc wine. My only criticism is that I cannot find it on the shelves in my local superstores. Has it been discontinued or can I purchase it on line please?
How on earth do you open this bottle of sparkling wine I found it impossible and just left it outside in the garden as it made me so nervous and I’ve opened thousands of bottles of cava etc over the years !!!
