NFL fans’ most popular drinks brands

The preferred beer and spirits brands among fans of all 32 National Football League teams have been tracked through social media.

As part of their on-going partnership, Nielsen and BARTENDr have tracked the most popular drinks across the various fanbases according to those that were most discussed on social media.

Nielsen explained: “With the NFL playoffs beginning… Nielsen and BARTRENDr took a look back at the 2015 pre-season and regular football season to pinpoint the most talked about beer and spirits brands among America’s football fan base. Tapping into conversations happening within BARTRENDr’s exclusive online community, trending topics reflecting fan favorites were captured at social scenes from around the country that included bars, tailgating locations and friendly gatherings—even living rooms and man caves.”

As one might expect, big brands from the likes of Diageo and AB InBev dominate.

Take for example the two teams heading to this year’s Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

According to the findings Panthers fans have a marked preference for Heineken and Jack Daniels while Broncos fans prefer Bud Light and Bacardi.

A couple of the apparent preferences make geographic sense – Tennessee Titans fans do indeed prefer locally made Jack Daniels it seems and the Philadelphia Eagles Yuengling beer for example.

But why do fans of the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars prefer Pabst Blue Ribbon instead of Green Bay’s ‘Gang Green’ who hail from that brand’s original state, Wisconsin? And why aren’t New Orleans’ fans sipping on bourbon rather than Canadian Crown Royal?

The full results of the survey can be found below, craft beer suggestions relevant to the teams playing in the Super Bowl next month will appear on the drinks business soon.
