Macallan vertical for sale in HK

Sotheby’s first Hong Kong sale of 2016 will feature a vertical of The Macallan and a Jeroboam of Louis XIII.

Taking place on 30 January, the auction features over 500 lots of Bordeaux, over 100 of rare Burgundy and several extremely rare spirits. It is expected to realise HK$15-21 million.

At the heart of the sale is a selection of fine wines that features close to 120 lots of first growth Bordeaux and “significant” parcels of Calon-Ségur, Duhart-Milon and Pontet-Canet.

As for the Burgundy on sale, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Armand Rousseau, Comte Georges de Vogüé and Domaine Leroy.

Two particular highlights of the sale however are spirits. The first is a series of verticals of The Macallan Scotch whisky spanning 1945-1986. The oldest mini-vertical covering 1945-1950 is valued at HK$280,000-350,000, while the most recent, consisting of the 1981-1985 vintages is valued at HK$65,000-85,000.

The other notable spirit lot is a Jeroboam of Rémy Martin’s ‘Louis XIII’ Cognac. With a HK$180,000-240,000 estimate, the lot also includes an invitation for four people to visit the house and a private lunch.
