Kerry Wines in CNY abalone giveaway

In the lead up to Chinese New Year, Kerry Wines is giving away the much-prized Hong Kong treat of abalone with every order over HK$2,988.

In order to promote its festive Chinese New Year wine catalogue, Hong Kong’s fine wine importer, Kerry Wines will bestow a pack of Laurel Restaurant Premium Abalone worth $268 to every customer to serve alongside their wines at the Chinese New Year feast.

Each 260g pack contains four abalone and abalone sauce and is automatically given to every customer who orders over HK$2,998, including free delivery.

Abalone is an edible sea snail and appears regularly in Hong Kong’s fine dining Chinese restaurants where it is considered a supreme delicacy eaten either raw or cooked.

The Four Seasons’ three-Michelin starred restaurant, Lung King Keen currently serves Hong Kong’s most expensive abalone for 16 people priced at HK$7,000 per person.

The Year of the Monkey is the 4713th year, according to the Chinese horoscope calendar and celebrations are due to run from 8-10 February – though quite sensibly, most Hong Kong businesses shut down a week before and after for much feasting and visiting of family.

Maybe this could be the year for New Zealand’s Monkey Bay? Or Colorado’s urban winery, Infinite Monkey Theorem? The list goes on…
