HK prisoners revolt over wine confiscation
Hong Kong’s Correctional Services Department has had to clamp down on “illicit activities” following the discovery of homemade orange wine in a prison dorm.
Since the alcoholic discovery earlier this month in Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution, four prisoners have been put under disciplinary action for possessing the banned booze but in response, 40 other inmates staged a protest by refusing to leave the dining hall.
As reported by Coconuts HK, the protestors staged a sit-in until the punishments on the four had been lifted but the prison management responded with repeated verbal warnings until the protesters gave up and went back to their work stations.
The Correctional Services Department have now cracked down on prisoners who they believe are planning “illicit activities” such as smuggling in wine.
