First ex-cellar Ornellaia at Sotheby’s sale
The first wines from Ornellaia’s Archivio Storico project will go on sale next month at Sotheby’s New York auction.
The sale, to be held on 27 February, will also include wines to be sold for the benefit of The Philadelphia Library Company.
As was reported recently, the auction will be the first time ex-cellar wines from Super Tuscan Ornellaia feature at a Sotheby’s sale as part of a new partnership between the auction house and the Bolgheri winery.
The Ornellaia consignment will feature nine lots of six packs of the 1997 (US$1,600-$2,400 apiece), three lots of three magnums of the 2001 ($1,400-$2,200 each), four imperials of the 1995 ($1,500-$2,400 each) and eight six packs of the new 2013 Ornellaia Bianco for $950-$1,400 each.
The sale will also include a 400 lot consignment from “a distinguished and knowledgeable collector” featuring 1989 Haut-Brion, 2000 Cheval Blanc, 1982 Gruaud Larose and 1993 and 1995 Musigny from Comte George de Vogüé and large formats of Margaux, Mouton Rothschild, Palmer, Gaja and Domaine Ponsot.
Some rare double magnums of Sine Qua Non and an extremely hard to find three litre bottles from cult Washington producer Cayuse including a double magnum of the 2013 ‘Bionic Frog Syrah’ ($800-$1,500) and another of the 2013 ‘Cailloux Syrah’ ($350-$700), which are being sold to benefit the Philadelphia Library Company.
On 27 January, Sotheby’s will hold a sale in London featuring Salon Champagne, Margaux, Haut-Brion, Lynch Bages, Comtes Lafon, Grange, Ridge, Sassicaia and Latour among others.
