New Game of Thrones beer announced

The next Game of Thrones beer by Brewery Ommegang has been slated for release next spring.

‘Seven Thrones’, a hoppy wheat ale, is the latest in the Westeros-inspired range by the New York brewery and the show’s broadcaster, HBO.

So far there has been a beer for each season of the award-winning show, with previous brews including a Belgian ale dubbed ‘Fire and Blood’ and ‘Iron Throne Blonde Ale’.

According to both the brewery and HBO, “due to the popularity of this series of beers, Seven Kingdoms will be brewed at 3.5 times the volume of the first beer released in spring 2013.”

Mike McManus, innovation manger at Brewery Ommegang, said: “We love bringing as much inspiration, thoughtfulness and creativity to the Game of Thrones beers as we can.

“This last season, the imaginativeness of the show was pretty astounding so we aimed for a beer that could hope to match that. A fusion of two wonderful styles was an idea that really excited our team.”

Josh Goodstadt, vice president of Global Licensing at HBO, added: “With Seven Kingdoms, Ommegang has crafted another excellent brew which we know our fans will love.

“The world of Westeros is varied and complex and this varietal embodies those characteristics while offering a new and unique taste to beer drinkers.”

Seven Kingdoms is described as “a marriage of a traditional Belgian-style wheat and a hop-forward American ale” but, unlike many of the marriages on the show, “the resulting hoppy wheat is pleasant, playful and inspired.”

With an abv of 6.9%, the beer will be available next March in advance of the launch of season six in April. The brew will be available across the US (with the exceptions of North and South Dakota, Mississippi, West Virginia, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana) on draught and in 750ml bottles priced at US$9.99.
