Napa secures recognition in Israel and Turkey
The Napa Valley Vintners association has secured recognition of the Californian region in Turkey and Israel.
Pat Stotesbery, chairman of the NVV’s Napa Name Protection Committee, said: “Preventing consumer deception by ensuring every bottle of wine that is labeled ‘Napa Valley’ contains wine made from Napa Valley grapes is one of our association’s top priorities.
“The Napa Valley name stands for wines of the highest quality and it is our responsibility to ensure wine lovers around the world are not fooled by bad actors seeking to profit by misrepresenting it.”
The Napa Valley secured similar recognition in China in 2012 and was the first non-European wine region to secure geographic indication in the European Union back in 2007.
Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, New Zealand, Norway, Taiwan and Thailand have also all recognised the Napa GI.
