HK to host ‘rarest Belgian beer’ event
The Westvleteren 12, considered to be the world’s rarest beer will headline at the opening of the new Frites Belgian beer hall in Causeway Bay.
Thought to the rarest beer in the world, the Westvleteren 12 brewed by Trappists monks
Usually available at only one case per person via a “beer hotline” at the Trappist St Sixtus Abbey, 60 bottles of the sought-after Westvleteren 12 beer will debut at Frites’ new restaurant launch on 28 January – offering beer fans a taste of the hefty 10.2% beer whose production is so limited, the bottle doesn’t carry a label.
The Frites chef, Michael Van Warmelo has also created a Belgian cuisine and beer pairing menu with three ‘World Beer Awards’ winners – Haacht Brewery Tongerlo Blond, Mort Subite Oude Geuze and Malheur Brune 12 matched with charcuterie, moules frites and dessert as well as the Westvleteren 12 which has been chosen to pair with the Belgium Blue tenderloin.
Anticipating a surge of interest, the launch event is limited to 60 tickets available via Gormei.
Van Warmelo commented: “This is one of the most exciting beer events of the year in Hong Kong and not to be missed by beer connoisseurs.”
AT $2200 a person, you better get a happy ending with that bloody meal. Jesus Christ Hong Kong are you kidding me? People are falling for this? #Fail
