Vittorio will succeed Maurizio Zanella of Ca’ del Bosco, who has led the Consorzio for the past seven years.
On the progress made within the past seven years, outgoing president Maurizio Zanella said: “While exports are not a large share of our current sales, they are posting double-digit growth. Our key markets in Europe are Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and the UK and in the last four years, sales have increased by 44.7% in value. Non-EU leaders are the US and Japan.”
By the end of 2015, 16 million bottles of Franciacorta will have been sold worldwide.
Outlining his commitment to positioning Franciacorta sparkling wine as a “lifestyle choice”, new president Vittorio Moretti said: “I am very excited to take on the role as President of Franciacorta and I hope to continue our progressive work in developing our viniculture and oenological knowledge, with a special focus on the environment and the landscape of our beautiful region.”
The board of directors has also been re-elected with Silvano Brescianini, CEO of Barone Pizzini, being appointed as vice-president of the Consorzio.
The Franciacorta region is in Lombardy and achieved DOCG status in 2995. It was the first region in Italy to use traditional method in producing its sparkling wines.
