‘95 Le Pin leads Sotheby’s sale

A case of 1995 Le Pin lead Sotheby’s ‘Century of Fine Wine’ sale in London earlier this week in a “great start for December”.

The single owner sale spanning a century of “classic” Bordeaux, Burgundy and Sauternes realised £854,719 in total, with Right Bank Bordeaux much in demand.

The case of Le Pin realised £14,688, closely followed by a case of 1975 Petrus which made £12,338.

Another 12 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 1972 La Tâche made £8,460, though another case of the same wine made £7,638 and a case of the ’72 Richebourg made £5,875.

Other top lots included 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion, 1986 Mouton Rothschild, 1990 Beauséjour Duffau Lagarosse and 1996 Le Pin.

Stephen Mould, head of Sotheby’s Wine, Europe, commented: “Strong interest in rare and more recent vintages of red Bordeaux sparked competitive bidding from across Europe and Asia, while red Burgundy was similarly in demand.

“It’s a great start for December, with our next London sale – The Exceptional Cellar of a Connoisseur (16-17 December) – one of the most important cellars to be sold at Sotheby’s in recent years.”
