Sotheby’s is set to offer a century of classic fine wine at its next London sale this December.
Taking place on 2 December, the auction will span the vintages 1903 to 2009 from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Italy, opening with a single bottle of 1903 Lafite (£600-700) and an equally sought after bottle of 1928 Mouton Rothschild (£1,000-1,300) is also to be offered. A further single bottle of 1957 Mouton will also go under the hammer and full cases of the 1952, 1964 and 1996 vintages have been lined-up too.
For the other first growths there are cases of 1964 Haut-Brion (£2,400-2,800 each), 1959 Margaux (£3,600-4,600 apiece) and six and eight bottle packs of 1990 Latour (£1,900-2,200 and £2,400-2,800 respectively).
From the Right Bank, 1995 Cheval Blanc and Le Pin (with the Cheval Blanc in double magnums and imperials) are particular highlights, while from Sauternes Yquem 1988, 1989 and 1990 will be offered in formats from half bottle to imperials.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Henri Jayer and Armand Rousseau make up the bulk of the Burgundian contingent with cases of La Tâche, Rochebourg and Clos de la Roche much in evidence.
Older Italian vintages such as 1986 Solaia, 1999 Ornellaia and 1995 Barolo La Serra from Roberto Voerzio
