As reported by Sud Ouest, Bordeaux Wine Bar Plus will open in the Tenjin district of Fukuoka next March. It is the sixth Bordeaux-only bar opened by the Bordeaux Wine Council and the fourth in Asia, with two in Shanghai and one in New York.
The aim of the bars is to encourage an appreciation of Bordeaux in the region’s key export markets. At just 27, French-Japanese Robuchon Abe is a member of the Commanderie de Bordeaux.
The bar will serve a range of Bordeaux wines, including those from grands crus classé châteaux, but also more affordable reds, whites, rosés and sweet wines.
Last year some 21 million bottles of Bordeaux were exported to Japan making it a key market for the region. Fukuoka and Bordeaux have been twin cities since 1982.
