Pooh ‘the wine waiter’ sketch at Bonhams sale
An illustration of Winnie the Pooh carrying a bottle of wine is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams London book sale on 11 November.
Drawn by the illustrator E.H Shepard while on a voyage to Australia over Christmas and New Year in 1967-1968, the artwork shows Winnie the Pooh armed with a large bottle of wine with Piglet loaded down with dishes behind him.
Shepard drew it on the back of a menu for the Landfall Dinner on 14 January 1968 as a farewell gift to the steward who served his table on the SS Arcadia.
The piece is estimated at £8,000-12,000 and appears in the Bonhams Fine Books and Manuscripts sale in London on 11 November alongside other several original illustrations connected with children’s literature.
