Montes releases its first sparkler in UK
Chilean wine producer Viña Montes has launched its first ever sparkling wine in the UK through Liberty Wines.
Named Sparkling Angel, the method traditionelle sparkling wine is expected to retail at £15.99, putting it in direct competition with the mid-range Prosecco market.
Sparkling Angel is made with a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay grown in the Pacific coast region of Zapallar. The Brut-style wine spends a total of 36 months on the lees.
“Sparkling Angel is the result of a great team effort at the winery,” winemaker Aurelio Montes Sr said. “The grapes from Zapallar give great elegance and varietal character, which together with three years on the lees results in a wine of real finesse.”
Its tasting notes describe it as a “subtle sparkling wine, sumptuous on the palate, with fine, long-lasting bubbles, and distinctive notes of walnut, dried fruit, and toasted breadcrumbs.”
