HK’s ‘Champion bartender’ Lai in new venture
Antonio Lai of Quinary fame and chef Vicky Cheng have partnered up to open a new French restaurant and bar, Vea in Sheung Wan.
Antonio Lai is known for his molecular mixology at Hong Kong’s Quinary and Origin bars
Offering a single eight-course tasting menu with paired cocktails and wine, Vea is a described as a “contemporary French restaurant” on the site of the former Liberty Private Work where Cheng was executive chef.
On the 29th floor is a cocktail lounge and terrace serving cocktails divided into four categories: sweet, savoury, sour, and strong and using Asian ingredients including Chinese mustard, longans, Japanese dashi and bone marrow, all created by inspired creations of Antonio Lai and mixologist, Leszek Stachura.
The eight-course tasting menu at Vea is priced at HK$1,180 per person, with an additional HK$600 for the seven-course cocktail and wine pairing on the 30th floor.
Antonio Lai was crowned Diageo’s “champion bartender” in Hong Kong and Macau for his Sound of Ciroc cocktail which wowed the judges this June. He was head bartender at Quinary, one of Hong Kong’s best loved haunts and Lai is renowned for his “multisensory mixology.”
