The French restaurant, run by celebrity chef Michel Roux Jr, will be closed to the public on Mondays from January 2016 but will be available for private hire.
Roux and his daughter Emily will be launching the “Next Generation” pop-up series on 1 February, collaborating as father and daughter for the first time.
The restaurant will also welcome back Roux scholars for pop-up events on Monday nights, in addition to tutored tastings run by head sommelier, David Galetti.
“We’re very excited about the new opportunities this will bring to the restaurant. While the traditional Gavroche experience will still be available five days a week, having the restaurant closed on a Monday to the general public means that new experiences can be offered in within the restaurant,” said Roux Jr.
Le Gavroche was opened in 1967 by brothers Michel and Albert Roux and has built a reputation for its classical French cuisine including its famous Soufflé Suissesse – a cheese soufflé baked with double cream.
In 1982 it became the first UK restaurant to be awarded three Michelin stars. Albert’s son, Michel Roux Jr, took over the kitchen in 1991 and it lost its second star in 1993.
Named after a character in Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, everyone from Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay to Marcus Wareing has worked at the restaurant.
