Gaucho launches all-Argentine wine list
Argentine steakhouse group Gaucho has launched an all-Argentine wine list, with all of the drops on offer having been made exclusively for the group.
The brainchild of Gaucho’s wine director Phil Crozier, the new list has been 15 years in the making, with many of the wines born from Crozier’s close relationships with the winemakers.
Designed to appeal to both novices and wine nuts, the list is divided into categories like “Anatomy of a Vineyard”, which explores the effects of terroir on taste.
The list also boasts a “Super Malbecs” section showcasing the best single vineyard Malbecs currently being made in Argentina.
Among the new wines on the list are Trapiche Fincas Cabernet Franc made by Daniel Pi from old vines in Cruz de Piedra in Maipu; and three single vineyard Malbec’s from Doña Paula from vineyards in Altamira, Gualtallary and Ugarteche in Lujan de Cuyo
Also new on the list is pair of wines from the Michelini brothers: Calcero Malbec and Eterno Returno “Petit Malbec”; a blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot from Gualtallary.
All of the wines on the 180-strong list are exclusive to the restaurant group and can’t be found anywhere else in the UK, with Crozier often getting involved in the blending process. All of the wines on the list are also available to buy to take home.
