Haut-Brion ‘61 snapped up at London sale

Magnums and double magnums of 2000 Mouton Rothschild and nine bottles of Haut-Brion 1961 were among the top lots at Sotheby’s latest London sale.

The three double magnums of 2000 Mouton and bottles of Haut-Brion led the sale this week, selling for £11,515 apiece.

Another six magnums of 2000 Mouton made £11,163, as did six bottles of 1989 Petrus. Also in the top-selling lots were 2001, 2004 and 2007 Petrus and 1990 Cheval Blanc.

Overall the sale made £769,437 and although Bordeaux was dominant, Stephen Mould, European head of Sotheby’s Wine Department, noted Burgundy sold strongly too.

He said: “We saw good interest from European bidders, online and in the room, with solid bidding on desirable vintages of Bordeaux and Burgundy. The 1990 and 1993 vintages of Vosne Romanée Cros Parantoux exceeded their high estimates, and mature vintages of Bordeaux, such as Château Haut Brion 1961, were also in demand.
