UK Champagne ambassador named
Simon Stockton has been named as the UK’s Champagne ambassador for 2015 and will now go on to represent the UK at the European final.
Stockton, founder of wine events company Sugar & Yeast, and the other UK finalists went up against judges Richard Bampfield MW, Gerard Basset MW, Carol Whitehead and Françoise Peretti and sought to impress them with their knowledge of this year’s theme – “Reserve Wines”.
Candidates were given four Champagnes to taste and were then expected to give a talk on the theme with the judges scoring them for their knowledge, communication skills and ability to be lively and engaging.
Heather Dougherty and Godfrey Spence were runners up
Stockton will now go on to represent the UK at the European finals on 28 October where he will compete against finalists from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, with the winner named on 29 October.
