Reds shine for South America
The International Wine & Spirit Competition has released its results for Chile and Argentina as the two nations team up in London for the Mercado Andino tasting.
This year has seen Chile win a total of 356 medals, while Argentina took home 243. For both countries it was red wine that stole the limelight, accounting for all Gold and Gold Outstanding medals awarded.
Among the white wine highlights were Silver Outstanding medals for Marks & Spencer’s Emiliana Viognier 2014 and Viña La Reserva de Caliboro’s Erasmo Late Harvest Torontel 2010.
Announcing the results, IWSC general manager Ewan Lacey commented: “It is fantastic to see such a strong performance, from both Chile and Argentina. Our judges have been tasting these wines since July and we’ve been busy preparing the results in time for Mercado Andino to make the most of the opportunity to connect with our producers.”
The IWSC team is pouring medal winners on stand 104 at Mercado Andino, a joint trade tasting organised by Wines of Chile and Wines of Argentina, which takes place at Old Spitalfields Market in London today and tomorrow (9 and 10 September).
