Ornellaia second wine gets makeover
The 2013 vintage of Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia, the Super Tuscan’s “second wine”, will be released this week with a few small changes to its packaging.
Out on 10 September, the 2013 is just the 18th vintage of what many judge to be the first “second wine” from any of the major fine wine estates in Italy.
To mark its birthday, Le Serre is getting a slight makeover in the shape of a “restyled fresh and confident label”.
James Snoxell, head of buying at Ornellaia’s agent, Armit, said: “We are very excited to release the 2013 vintage of Le Serre Nuove. This truly is a remarkable wine from an outstanding estate and we are sure that it will be enjoyed now and for many years to come. The new packaging has increased shelf appeal, and will add further value to the brand.”
As for the wine itself, Axel Heinz, winemaker at Ornellaia, commented: “A marvellous summer and a cool, sunny September enabled perfect ripening of the grapes, despite a difficult flowering period, resulting in wines with a perfectly elegant expression.
“Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2013 displays an intense, bright colour, and the nose is vibrant and fruity underscored by delicate toasty notes. On the palate, the smooth, silky texture contrasts with tannins of great freshness. While its structure will enable it to mellow with age, its crisp fruit and smooth, refined character make it perfect to enjoy straight away.”
