HK’s Mahalo launches ‘Sunset Hour’ cocktails

Hong Kong’s take on a Polynesian cocktail bar, Mahalo Tiki Lounge has added a spectacular cocktail list as part of its ongoing Sunset Hour promotion.

Bringing the sunshine and exoticism of Polynesia to rain-lashed Hong Kong, the team at Mahalo in Wan Chai has introduced 15 % off selected drinks every day until 8pm where guests can sample the imaginative concoctions dreamed up by bar manager, Zoltan Konczol.

The sister bar of Lan Kwai Fong’s popular Honi Honi Cocktail Bar, Mahalo Tiki Lounge has over 50 cocktails and a Caribbean-inspired menu which includes marinated prawn skewers, spiced chicken skewers and pomegranate guacamole as its signature dishes.

Pina Colada

Part of Mahalo’s “Classics” list, the Pina Colada combines Pampero Blanco rum, Koko Kanu rum, coconut milk, lime juice, pineapple fruit and coconut syrup in a summery hollowed out pineapple. HK$120 for one or HK$220 for two sharing.

Honi Penny

As a nod of recognition towards M’s secretary in the James Bond series, the Honi Penny uses Don Papa Spiced Rum, black raspberry shrub, dry Sherry, lime juice, caster sugar and Créole bitters. $120.

Hidden Monkey

With a focus on Kraken Spiced Rum – a 94 proof black rum from the Carribean which is named after a legendary sea monster – the Hidden Monkey combines Cartron Vert Mate liqueur, jasmine syrup, apple juice, lime juice and rosemary. HK$130.

Mahina Girl

The Bikini-clad Mahina Girl has 8-year-old Bacardi as its base, muddled with Grand Marnier, lemon juice, guava juice, lemon curd and mint leaves. $130.

Mauritian Journey

Served in a rather formidable head looking like it should be on Easter Island, the Mauritian Journey features New Grove 5yrs Rum, Cartron caramel liqueur, allspice syrup, calamansi purée, orange juice and guava juice. $140.

St Barths’ Babes

Harking to the luxury Carribean island of St Barths and presumably the sort of guests who frequent its beaches, the St Barths’ Babes uses El Dorado 5yrs Rum, Cartron peach liqueur, watermelon juice, orange juice, cinnamon syrup, and calamansi purée. $130.

Bond Me Up!

Another Ian Fleming spy reference (or possibly Star Trek?), the Bond Me Up! combines Zacapa 23 Rum, Massenez Crème de pêche, Massenez Crème de mûre, lime juice, Tiki bitters and ginger beer in a rather characterful green Tiki mask. HK$140.

Makahiki

Named after the Hawaiian New Year festival, the sharing cocktail, Makahiki uses Grey Goose as its core as well as Cartron ginger liqueur, watermelon juice, orange juice, lime juice and a kick of Thai red chilli. $400.

Polynesian Love

One of Mahalo’s top-selling cocktails, Polynesian Love mixes Pampero Especial Rum, Amaretto, Massenez Crème de violettes, blackberry purée, raspberry purée and lime juice and is served in a fetching “Polynesian love idol.” $120.

Infused rum shots

Because ordinary rum bottles are so passé, drinkers can choose to down a Clément Rhum Blanc 1ère Canne, infused with fruits and spices which comes in a classy glass skull. HK$350 or HK$70 per shot.
