DBGitalia shows ‘true face’ of Italian wine
David Berry Green has said he is aiming to show the “true face of Italian wine” with his new DBGitalia range at Fields, Morris & Verdin.
Speaking to the drinks business at a portfolio tasting yesterday (7 September), Green said his new role at FMV would allow him to offer more from Italy to the trade than he’d been able to solely with Berry Bros & Rudd.
He said his aim in building the range had been to ignore “fads” and focus purely on “classic wines from classic regions”.
He admitted it was a Piedmont-heavy line-up, so far, a product of his living in the Langhe since 2009.
Nonetheless, the selection spans the entirety of the Italian peninsular and for all the talk of discovering new and exciting Italian regions and varieties, Green noted that even a well-known region such as Tuscany, “still has a lot to offer”.
He said that the past few years had seen a “real sea-change in Italian winemaking” that was increasingly being recognised by the trade and consumers.
He added he wanted his range to reflect the “true face of Italian wine” and that it would become a “destination” not just for the UK trade but internationally as well.
‘We’re working to bring these wines to customers all over the world,” he said.
Established by Green who came over from parent company BBR, DBGitalia was launched in June of this year and is a business to business and ex-cellar service that exports Italian wines around the world.
