db HK reveals blind tasting comp prizes

There is still time to enter the drinks business HK’s inaugural charity blind wine tasting competition for a chance to win top prizes, including a state-of-the-art wine fridge and a trip to an historic European wine region.

Launched in collaboration with Madison Wine, db HK’s first Hong Kong International Top Tasters (HITT) blind tasting competition will take place on 24 October at the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong.

Wine enthusiasts are invited to take part in the competition, which will see teams of four compete against each other to identify as closely as possible 12 wines of different regions and styles over the course of one hour. Answer sheets will be marked by a panel of judges who will be tasting the wines at the same time as the contestants. The results will be announced during a charity dinner on the same evening.

Each member of the winning team will win a wine fridge worth HK$ 8,990 with a capacity for 30 wine bottles, sponsored by Sensis Innovation, and a three-day trip to Hungary’s historic Tokaj region to visit Holdvölgy (Moonvalley Wines). All in-country expenses will be covered as part of the prize, with each winner invited to bring a plus one.

The runners up will have the chance to take part in a masterclass at St Hallett in Australia to explore the different expressions of Barossa Shiraz, followed by lunch on the St Hallett property with a tasting menu to suit.

db HK and Madison Wine have selected a local charity, The Autism Partnership Foundation, as the beneficiary of its inaugural event, which will also feature some exciting charity auction lots. Our sponsors include Sensis World, Vins de Corse, Graham’s Port, Banfi, St Hallett, Sarment, Marqués de Cárceres, Grace Vineyard, Vega Sicilia, Pont des Arts and many others.

Lee Watson, head sommelier at the Conrad Hotel, and Kimberley Drake, head of wine at Sarment HK, are working with the chefs on creative pairings for the wines, which will be served a charity dinner following the competition. Guests not attending the tasting competition can taste the wines at a tasting corner at the dinner.

Entry fee for a team of four at HITT is HK$3,000, with dinner tickets sold separately at HK$2,380 per person (or HK$ 2,080 per person for HITT contestants). Confirmation of registration is on a first come, first served basis. We are limiting the competition to a maximum of 15 teams only. The event promises to be a fun and educational evening.
