Crown Wine Cellars hosts CWG pre-auction tasting
Ahead of the annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild auction in October, Crown Wine Cellars held a pre-auction tasting for HK collectors to sample this year’s lots.
Offering 57 wines produced from CWG members, the pre-auction tasting at Crown Wine Cellars in Shouson Hill presented to Hong Kong’s wine collectors and enthusiasts, “the diverse offering and evolution of South African wines,” said general manager, Greg De ’Eb.
The guests who consisted of some of Hong Kong’s serious wine collectors and wine lovers tasted examples of the lots which included 2013 Beyerskloof Traildust Pinotage, 2014 Ataraxia Under the Gavel Chardonnay, 2013 Paul Cluver Auction Selection Pinot Noir, 2013 Hartenberg CWG Auction Shiraz and just-harvested 2015 Louis Nel A Thousand Kisses Deep Sauvignon Blanc.
The annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild auction which will be held this year on Saturday, 2 October gives CWG members the opportunity to present their wines to an international audience. To qualify as a member, the winemakers are “recognized for their high standards of craftsmanship, who have been responsible for producing outstanding wines for a minimum of five years and are actively involved in operations in the cellar from harvest to bottling,” said CWG.
“As we approach 20 years of hosting the Cape Winemakers Guild pre-auction tasting in Hong Kong, I am pleased to say that this is one of the strongest and most diverse selection of wines ever, said De ’Eb.
“We expect a good showing from our Hong Kong collectors based on their desire to add these wonderful, rare South African wines to their collections of Napa classics, French greats and South European icons.”
Crown Wine Cellars will host a second pre-auction tasting on Tuesday, 15 September to give collectors another chance to try the wines and then submit their proxy bids by the deadline of Friday, 25 September.
