Beronia launches first DO Rueda Verdejo
Bodegas Beronia, part of Gonzalez Byass, has made its first investment in the DO Rueda to produce a 100% Rueda Verdejo – its first white wine produced outside of Rioja.
Beronia Rueda 2014 is a collaboration between Beatriz Paniagua, Gonzalez Byass winemaker who was born in the Rueda region, and Matias Calleja, Beronia winemaker.
The wine has been produced from two different harvests in the same vineyard – an early harvest with fermentation at high temperatures in order to achieve “aromas and notes of ripe stone fruits”, and a second, later harvest, fermented at lower temperatures to add maturity and more “concentration and complexity” on the palate.
Rueda, famed for its production of crisp white wines, primarily from Spain’s native Verdejo grape, is one of the country’s fastest-growing wine regions, with several large producers buying up vineyards in the region in recent years.
Beronia Rueda 2014 is available from Ocado, RRP £8.99.
