Tanners opens new shop
UK independent merchant Tanners has expanded into Chester, opening its first shop in the city this week.
Tanners’ new shop in Chester
Housed in an Art Deco-style building on Christleton Road that has previously been a cinema and auction house, the new Tanners outlet stocks its full range of wines, beers and spirits, and features a “Wine Emotion” dispensing system that allows customers to buy sample-sized pours or glasses of wine.
The merchant has also created a “relaxed seating area” and tasting room that is available for small corporate or private events.
Chairman James Tanner explained the decision to open in Chester, saying: “Tanners is often called the ‘wine merchant of the Welsh Marches’ so Chester was the next logical step.”
Confirming that “I have had my eye on this particular site for many years,” he remarked: “being old auction rooms, it has plenty of space to create a great retail experience to serve the many private and trade customers Tanners already enjoys in Cheshire, as well as expanding our reach northwards.”
The move marks the seventh outlet for the company, which already operates shops in Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Hereford, Welshpool and Llandudno, and added a second “Taste of Tanners” extension to its Shrewsbury flagship last year.
