London resto serving Prosecco for a penny
Covent Garden coffee shop The Black Penny is to serve glasses of Prosecco for a penny as part of its new weekend brunch offer.
As reported by the Evening Standard, the café decided to play on its name and will be serving the 1p fizz at weekends until 3pm, starting this Saturday.
But those hoping to fill their boots will be disappointed to hear that the offer is limited to one glass per person for every large plate or two small plates ordered.
Among the dishes on offer are crispy confit duck and sweet potato hash; smoked salmon with green eggs and toasted sourdough; and poached eggs on sourdough with slow roasted tomatoes and chorizo.
Dishes cost between £4-£6.50 for small plates and £8.50-£10.50 for large plates, while a standard glass of Prosecco at The Black Penny usually costs £7.
As London’s appetite for brunch spots grows, so are bottomless booze offerings to accompany them.
Last month Cucina Asellina at the ME London hotel on The Strand launched a bottomless Prosecco and unlimited pizzette offering.
The only catch is that you have 90 minutes to make the most of the free flowing Prosecco, with sittings limited to an hour-and-a-half at a time.
Interesting. Does this flout the ‘can’t sell below duty & VAT’ rules?
