Bonhams flies the flag for Spanish wine
Auction house Bonhams is shining a light on Spain at its next fine wine auction in London on 3 September, which will include 40 lots of “top Rioja”.
Among the highlights from Spain are three double magnums of CVNE from the 1989, 1998 and 1999 vintages, which are expected to sell for £400-500 each. Imperials of the 1989 vintage of CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva meanwhile, carry an estimate of £300-350 each.
“With French wines tending to take centre stage in UK wine auctions it’s good to see so much fine Spanish wine in this month’s sale,” said Richard Harvey MW, head of Bonhams wine department.
Other liquid treasures to appear in the sale will be Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from the 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1997 vintages, Domaine Ponsot Chambertin 2002 and six bottles Joseph Drouhin Musigny 2000.
The auction’s Bordeaux offering includes four bottles of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945, which are expected to sell for £3,200-4,200 per bottle, and six magnums of Château Latour 1961 that carry an estimate of £42,000-50,000.
A case of Château Margaux 1982 will also go under the hammer, and is expected to fetch £6,500-7,500.
