‘Rare’ Aultmore whisky launched in Asia

Hailing from “Scotland’s Bermuda Triangle” in Speyside, Aultmore of the Foggie Moss has launched in Changi airport at the Dewar’s Fine Whisky Emporium.

Foggie: Imaginative use of humidified air and moss recreates the conditions of the Buckie Road distillery

In a travel retail exclusive, a rare Dewar’s whisky has launched in Singapore as the lead brand within the John Dewar & Sons Fine Whisky Emporium.

The presentation of Aultmore of the Foggie Moss Speyside Single Malt Whisky was accompanied by a “store activation” which included the use of humidified air and moss to simulate the fact that the underlying water source used for the Aultmore whisky is filtered through gorse and heather.

The activation was created by Bacardi Global Travel Retail and DFS and has been designed to recreate the natural elements of the surroundings of the Aultmore ‘Buckie Road’ distillery – once famous for smugglers – from which the whisky takes its name.

The distillery is so remotely located that it’s known as “Scotland’s Bermuda Triangle” and Aultmore has been given “Top Class” status as one of 12 single malt whiskies selected by a group of master distillers, according to Bacardi. It has been distilled in handmade copper pot stills since 1897, but for more than a century was only sold in limited editions aimed at collectors.

With DFS, it is available in three age variants: 12 year old, 18 year old and a travel retail exclusive of 21 year old.

Bacardi global travel retail regional director, Irving Holmes Wong said: “We’re delighted to launch Aultmore into Asia via travel retail. This is an exceptional single malt with a delicate flavour profile we know will be enjoyed by Asian malt lovers and collectors.

“Its rarity and great heritage play to the purchase motivations of shoppers at the second stage of luxury who are seeking to discover something new and outside the mainstream. The Bacardi single malts strategy is driving category growth and, with Aultmore under the halo of Dewar’s as the world’s most awarded blended scotch, we are confident of further acceleration.”

Dewar’s eyes Asia as a strong market for whisky and has recently opened a Fine Whisky Emporium in Taiwan’s Taoyuan airport.
