Fine dining resto to serve wine on tap
Proving that the trend in the UK has spread beyond casual dining venues, fine dining restaurant Avenue in St. James’s has started serving wine on tap.
The restaurant, which specialises in American wine and cuisine, has just taken on four wines on tap in a collaboration with Kensington-based fine wine merchant Roberson.
Two of the quartet hail from California: Broc Cellars Love Red 2013, a blend of Carignan, Petite Sirah and Valdiguié, and Tatomer Wines Meeresboden Gruner Veltliner 2014.
The other two are from France: Depourteau Lussac St Emilion 2013 and Domaine Morin-Langaran Picpoul de Pinet 2014.
Avenue was the first restaurant in the UK to use Coravin, so is clearly keen to bring the latest technological innovations in wine to its discerning diners.
“It’s great that a restaurant of that calibre is supporting the idea as high-end venues are the core of Roberson’s business.

“Avenue is the first classic restaurant to sell wine on tap – it will be interesting to see how it’s received there,” said Roberson’s business development director Adam Green.
The restaurant’s head sommelier Andres Ituarte told db that wine on tap perfectly fits with Avenue’s innovative agenda.
“Getting in with Roberson on this project is key to pushing the boundaries of wine innovation at Avenue and in London,” he said.
The wine on tap trend has been thriving in the US for years but has recently been embraced by a number of UK suppliers including Roberson, Bibendum and Jascots.
Last December Roberson collaborated with new seafood venue Rex & Mariano in Soho on a first for the UK: a wine offering served entirely on tap.
Among the eight wines on pour are Wind Gap Trousseau Gris 2013 from the Russian River Valley and Broc Cellars Carignan 2013 from the Alexander Valley.
Proving just how serious it is about wine on tap, Roberson currently offers 50 wines by the keg and is keen to expand the selection should it prove popular.
Among the other UK venues it suppliers are the new Burger & Lobster in the City; Mission in Bethnal Green and chops specialist Blacklock in Soho.
