Benevolent launches Ambassador drive

Drinks trade charity The Benevolent is calling for volunteers from across the wine, spirits, beer and cider trades to become Benevolent Ambassadors, helping it to spread its message.

The Benevolent was founded in 1886 to help colleagues from the drinks industry facing medical or financial hardship.

Its Ambassador initiative is being launched to mark the 10th anniversary of The Benevolent Buddies – a  group established in 2005 to provide networking opportunities and raise vital funds for the charity. The Buddies is being relaunched as the Benevolent Ambassadors, with the charity seeking new volunteers to boost its message.

David Cox, chief executive of The Benevolent, said: “This Ambassador Initiative forms a vital part of our awareness-raising strategy. I am really looking forward to these volunteers becoming our valuable communicators and supporters within their own organisations or trade sectors as will allow the message of our charitable work to be spread even more comprehensively within the trade.”

In addition to helping with organising networking events, the Ambassadors will play a key role in supporting The Benevolent’s charitable operations and shaping its engagement strategy with the wider trade.

“In the past The Buddies have done brilliant work to raise money for The Benevolent and help people within our industry meet and network with others”, said Ali Mann, chairman of the Benevolent Ambassador’s steering committee. “As Benevolent Ambassadors we’re going to continue to do that but in addition we are going to take a more active role in ensuring that our colleagues and friends within the trade know more about their trade charity and how to access support.”
