Taxi service for drunks planned in US
A two-pronged taxi service that caters specifically to those who have unexpectedly had one too many and been left unable to drive themselves home could soon launch in the US.
A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to get Blaxi off the ground – an on-demand taxi service that promises to make excuses for drink driving even more inexcusable.
A super Uber if you will, at the touch of a button inebriated travellers will be able to call upon not one, but two Tuxedo-clad drivers – one that will drive you home, and one to drive your car home.
Introducing the campaign its co-founder, Evan Thomas Stafford, said: “As someone who has been personally affected by drunk driving, I knew that there had to be a better option. As I was sitting with a close friend who himself had just received a DUI, I asked why hadn’t he just taken a cab home? He replied that he had to work the next morning and couldn’t leave his car downtown, so he decided to drive home. Then it hit me, what if there was a service that would come to your location and drive you and your car home, and voila BLAXi was born.”
According to its Indiegogo site, BLAXi will donate a portion of every ride to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
“Today, alcohol related accidents cost Americans over $200 Billion dollars per year while the average DUI costs over $15,000”, it said. “BLAXi aims to prevent all of these deaths and make the roads a safer place by providing an app based designated drivers on demand service to safely get you and your car home.”
The team has been working on the app for the last two years and says it has overcome the legal hurdles, but now needs to raise $50,000 in order to launch the app, first in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Perhaps the name should have checked out in urban dictionary before it was launched:
