Bar launches festival-themed cocktail list
Matt Whiley, the liquid alchemist in charge of Peg + Patriot, the bar at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, has created a cocktail list inspired by festivals.
Matt Whiley aka Talented Mr Fox
The list aims to capture the spirit of five major summer festivals around the world: Glastonbury in Somerset; Benicassim in northern Spain; Wilderness in Oxfordshire; Lovebox in London and Burning Man in Nevada.
Everything from glassware and garnishes to colour has been carefully thought out to best translate the essence of the festival in liquid form.
The Benicassim plays on the festival’s Spanish location via the use of local wine Albariño and a horchata distillate; a popular Spanish drink made from ground almonds.
The Glastonbury meanwhile, conjures the spirit of Somerset. Served in a beer tankard, it features Bourbon infused with clotted cream and apple cider.
Taking inspiration from its setting in the Nevada desert, the oil-black Burning Man features Tequila, lime acid, agave and a mysterious Death Valley tincture.
Known at the Talented Mr Fox, Whiley has made a name for himself for his madcap cocktails and bespoke spirits featuring ingredients like Monster Munch and salt beef bagels, which are distilled at the bar in a rotary evaporator.
