AWC launches £75k Versailles oak wine case
The Antique Wine Company has marked its 25th anniversary with the launch of a £75,000 wine case made from Marie Antoinette’s favourite oak tree at Versailles.
Pape Clément not included
The oak tree stood in Versailles for 320 years outlasting numerous royals and the French Revolution.
After falling victim to drought, the oak was felled in 2005 and acquired by Bordeaux négociant Cordier Mestrezat.
The case, crafted by Cordier Mestrezat, will made its debut at art, antiques and design fair Masterpiece London this week.
Inside it are liquid treasures from the 1990 vintage: Petrus, Latour, Yquem and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche.
“For the past 25 years our mission has been to share the pleasures of wine through exceptional experiences, tasting and acquiring the best wines from around the world.
“The opportunity to acquire the anniversary case is in itself rare. Add to this the four extraordinary wines that we’ve acquired and you have a one off opportunity to own a piece of history,” said AWC’s founder Stephen Williams.
Masterpiece London takes place at the Royal Hospital Chelsea from today until 1 July. In addition to the case, AWC will debut its Legacy series of large format bottles at the fair.
