‘Magic of France’ comes to Acker auction

Auction house Acker Merrall & Condit hopes that lots of rare Bordeaux and Burgundy from two private cellar collections will enchant bidders at its HK sale in May.

Proving that the Hong Kong auction market remains unquestionably buoyant, Acker Merrall & Condit has acquired two private cellar collections originating from the Rocky Mountains for its sale on Saturday, 30 May.

Including 1978 Ausone, 1964 Cheval Blanc, 1976 Lafite and 1986 Margaux, the first collection presents “one of the most impressive and comprehensive collections of mature wines Acker has offered this year,” says Acker CEO, John Kapon.

DRC also features prominently with 1950 Eschezeaux, 1971 La Tache, 1961 Romanée-Conti, 1966 Richebourg and a Methuselah of 1988 Montrachet. Offerings from the Rhone present an interlude with 1996 Rayas and 1989 Guigal before Champagne finishes the collection with a parcel of 1978 Dom Pérignon and magnums of 1982 and 1988 Cristal.

The second collection comprises nine lots of Lafite from 1961 to 2000, 1959 Latour and 1989 magnums of Lynch Bages. There is also a four case parcel of 1990 Yquem and 1989 Haut Brion Blanc. Other highlights include 1989 Angelus, 1989 Clinet, 1982 Margaux and 1990 Montrose.

Kapon continued: ‘I’ll be surprised if there is a greater collection of wonderfully stored, older Bordeaux offered anywhere this year. The collector started early in the 1980s and developed a passion for the greatest red wines. He shares with us over 125 lots of mostly Bordeaux spanning over 50 years and it is a privilege to represent this wonderful and amazing collection from a devoted oenophile.”
